I live in chicago IL in a two bedroom basement apartment.
one bedroom is in the front off the living room and the other in th the very back off the laundry room, of which is
solly for my use. In the laundry room are the hotwater tanks the furnace for the landlord upstairs and our appartment.
(my heat is included)
My lanlord feels he can enter the apartment at any time without notice or permission and is never for repair or maintenence reasons. When asked to leave he states thats
he does not have to, and when we argue with him he goes into the laundry room and states that he has the right to
be there because of the hotwater heaters and the furnace
are there. please note that my second bedroom is at the other end of the laudry room.
we have found signs of his being in the appartment when
we've been out, we have cought him looking in our windows,
peeing near our front door ETC...
recently we called the police and they sujested to us to
change the locks, so we did . Now our landlord gave us a note stating that if we do not give him keys he is going to break in our back door this friday
My rent is paid and is never late.

Are these actions leagal?
what do we do if he brakes in our door?(there is no reason for him to be in our appartment there's nothing to fix!)

If the only way L can get to the furnace and heaters are through your unit then you have a serious problem.
