I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the name of the employer here, but in this situation I think it would help.
Basically I worked for CBS for a year, and when I quit, my boss didn't get the paperwork in on time to New York to let them know I wasn't an employee any more. Therefore, I received two (!!) direct deposit paychecks after I quit. About 2 months after I quit, they call me up wanting the money back!
My question is, can they take it back or could it be legally found that I could keep the money? Everyone I've talked to seems to think it was their mistake so they should suffer and learn their lesson for the next time. My friends and I even joked about sueing them for "unauthorized direct deposits" into my bank account. This is about $1000 they want back and I don't want to have to face CBS/Viacom lawyers. What can/should I do?
