I think my ex is using my ss number

What is the name of your state? PA
i am currently in the process of getting a divorce.
i went to sears to apply for a sears card and when i gave them my ss number my husbands name came up under my number,then i got a bill from a collection agency and his name came up again with my social !
does that happen because we are married ,or should i expect that he is using my number? can i get him for identity theft or fraud?(we are seperated )he also has written out over 3000 in bad checks using old checks with our married name on them.what should be my line of action to stop my credit from being damaged ?who should i call first ?

You should:

1. Place fraud alerts with the big 3 credit reporting agencies

2. Pull a copy of all the credit reports and look for indiscrepancies

3. Call the police

Pretty much in that order
