Where is the manager getting the $2,000 figure from? Is that the amount of cash or the value of the merchandise you took?

Assuming that's the case, the district manager has allowed you to make restitution in exchange for their (a) not filing criminal charges against you, AND (b) not bringing a civil suit against you for the amount you stole. If those are the terms the company is offering, your options are to accept them and be thankful you're getting off so easily or fail to repay what you owe, quite possibly do some jail time, and still have to repay them the two grand.

My response:

Do you get the visual, like I have, that our writer is about 67 years old, 5'1", a little overweight, and has silver/blue hair?

Mom!!
