I went camping with 3 people i knew and we met 7 other people I did not know. The people I did not know had camped at this spot the weekend before so I assumed the spot was safe and legal. To get to the campsite we had to cross a little river which later I found out was crossing from Georgia into South Carolina. Everybody was around the campsite and there was one guy who was very loud. We were drinking and many people including me were smoking pot out of the many glass pipes getting passed around. At about 3 A.M 4 Department of Natural Resouce officer surronded us and started searching out bags and out persons. They said they watched us for 2 hours with night vision goggles and said they saw everyone smoke the pot. Many of the people I did not know had many drugs on them,,pot,,mushrooms,,LDD,,,one guy even had a gun! I myself had nothing. They found nothing on me or in my tent or backpack. When it was over they gave me a litering ticket and a possesion of pot ticket. I don't understand how I am getting the same ticket as the guys they found actual pot on? I had no idea we were not suppose to camp there,,, there were no signs and I did not even know we were in South Carolina. What should I do about the pot charge????? I really can't afford a lawyer.
Please help.

Thanks,
Ryan

As far as I know, the reason that you would get the same ticket as everyone else, is that when you passed the pipe, the weed "became everybody's" pretty much...that would put you in "possession of the weed" even if only temporarily...
You say you "got a ticket", does that mean you have to appear in court, or do you just have to pay a fine? Or can you talk to a magistrate? If you can talk to a magistrate, that's always cool--just tell them the truth. But I'm thinking it won't do much good...if you do have to appear in court, and it's your first offence, and you explain what happened, you're just gonna get a slap on the wrist anyway, with a fine or whatever...not really a big deal. First mistake was assuming that the camping spot was cool, at least your ticket is in another state! (not your own).
Don't know if this helps at all, let me know!

Doubt that 7-year old charges will make much difference if youv'e had nothing since then Cindy/otis
