It would be helpful if one or two Senior Members were given mod abilities for when this happens.
It would also be helpful if anyone who registers from an IP address associated with a VPN, server, or data center was sent to an approval queue before the membership became active. We did this for a forum I moderate and it made everyone's lives a lot easier.

That's how it works on thelaw.com.

I remember quite awhile ago, during a different invasion of spammers, that FA’s tech guy tried to explain to me why certain filters were not being used or certain steps were not being taken to prevent spam. My brain didn’t absorb any of the explanation - haha - but I accepted then that FA recognized the problem and was working on it.

I assume that FA does not like the forum spammed any more than we do and is working on something. Some of the suggestions mentioned here seem to be ones that could be relatively easy to implement. I also like Red’s suggestion of limiting new posters to 10 posts a day - that would help control both spammers and trolls.

In the meantime, I will keep fingers crossed that the Aller boys and those of their ilk have found a new place to play.
