What is the name of your state?co
In fall of 2002, a person or group of people obtained my checking account and routing numbers as well as three other bank customers from the same branch. Using an old address and incorrect apartment number my newly changed name(which had no link to the address) they printed fraudulent checks and printed id with my name to use to obtain various things through out greater denver to the tune of 7000 dollars. I filed reports for theft and check fraud with my bank, the credit agencies, with all of the respective police agencies where the fraudulent checks were used, and filed a id theft report with my local police department. two years have since passed and in december 2004 a law firm representing one of the defrauded companys filed a collection notice against me with a credit reporting agency for the money in attempt to collect. At no time did the company or the law firm make a successful attempt to contact me because i no longer lived at the address, however, my current address was listed in the public records of all of the police reports, and on my credit report with the credit reporting agency that they filed a collection against. can they do that with out contacting me and what all am I required to do to fix this? what additionally can I do short of reissuing my self a new id and all the pain that comes along with this, I feel that I did everything in my availabilities to cma at the time and feel that maybe somebody should owe me for all of the hours i have spent feeling like a criminal not the victim.
