What is the name of your state? Ohio
I'm not sure where to post this, or if it is even a legal issue... An ex-roommate used my name to open a credit account. I only found out about it when I applied to refinance my mortage several years later. I paid off the debt and sued. But she filed bankruptcy and I never collected. I now have theft protection on credit accounts. I have checked my credit reports yearly ever since and no unknown accounts appear. However, her addresses (Texas, N. Carolina, S Carolina) show up on my reports and she did open an account in her name listing me as her mother/landlord and granting an additional card on the account in my name (without my knowledge of course). Additionally, she is using variations of my name, her name, and combined names that show up on "peoplefinders.com". One of these names even has criminal charges (domestic violence) in Texas. I am not sure if she may have stolen any documents with personal information before I knew what she was doing.
So, my question is... Can I get into any trouble by the things she is doing? Do I need a lawyer? I don't think it is illegal to change your name, but I can't even begin to imagine the things she may be doing? What do I need to do to protect myself?
Thank you for any possible assistance.
