What is the name of your state? Colorado

Not looking for legal advice, not looking to give it. Actually I wanted to share something with all of you before you battle over that fence. IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!!

It costs a fortune, you probably won't get anywhere and it can get really nasty. Three restraining orders, dozens of false police reports, three or is it four surveys, and about $10,000 later and still no fence. Six years of fighting and nobody even remembers what they were fighting for.

Before you take legal action please read this and condsider your next move very wisely.

I hope an outside link is okay, but I see so many people here gung ho to fight it out with their neighbors and I was hoping to make them stop and think before they act.

Hmm

Should we read anything into the fact that your link comes from the "fiction press"?

Bottom line - fight for what is yours. If you have the resources to battle it out with someone, and that's how you choose to spend your time and money, I say more power to you.

Just don't try to tell me that my fence is on your property. I got my survey done BEFORE I put up the fence:D

Depends on the amount of property

If you have a yard that is only 40' by 100' to begin with and your neighbor tries claiming another foot of yard away from you, there is nothing wrong with standing up for your property value and keeping your land.

A few inches along a long property line can add up to a lot of square feet, not to mention it could stop you from being able to expand on your home due to zoning laws.

Remember, if you allow the fence to stay (without acknowledgement that you own the land) that land could eventually become your neighbor's property by law.

Names and locations are changed, everything else is true, provable, and well documented. Who would believe a story like that is anything BUT fiction right? Except maybe those who have lived it.

We've learned a lot in the last six years, nobody respects someone who allows themselves to be victimized. As Christians we operated under the turn the other cheek method of conflict resolution. It doesn't work, we kept getting pushed into a corner and still refused to fight. It got us nowhere!

At the same time, my story is not all that unusual. I have made many friends in the neighbors from hell forums who have been through similar situations. Once it comes to the court system you just never know.

You want the truth? Our neighbor may be mentally unstable, but we were idiots. There were things we could have and should have done a long time ago. Instead of being proactive it was a react as forced situation, too little too late.

I hope to add the ending sometime soon, but due to the unpredictable nature of past events I don't write a chapter until long after it is over. It did take them nine months to have a survey done that was in line with the orders of the court. I have learned not to count on anything until it actually happens.

I will tell you... There is a happy ending, totally unexpected. One family member is now the Mayor of our fine town, another is studying to be a paralegal, and we owe it all to "Sue" - and yeah, we all grew a backbone, we had no choice.

I just thought maybe the people who came here asking for advice on filing a lawsuit regarding their neighbors loud stereo would benefit from our story. Your situation might be bad, but it could be a whole hell of a lot worse. I've learned to laugh at myself and my situation, and hey... I'm okay with you laughing at me too.
