I allowed a 'friend' to move in with her possessions into my spare bedroom in the home I pay the mortgage on. No written contract was formed - no rent was negotiated or expected. Less than a month later, she left one day stating she would return the next but didn't return. Within a week, I discovered she was participating in illegal and dishonest acts. I changed the locks. Is it illegal for me to not return all of the possessions to the 'friend' when she requests them?
