A restaurant owner, where my wife works, deducts money from wages as a punishment for waitresses who forget to write prices on their completed meal tickets. The customers are charged for what they order, but the owner also deducts the ticket amount from the waitress's check. How can this be legal??

It's not. I suggest your wife contact S.C.'s Department of Labor and file a complaint immediately. Any other employees being subjected to the same treatment may (and should) do so as well.
