I rented a room from my cousin Blaine in a house owned my his brother (also my cousin) Jeff. They co-owned a business and had an office in the house. There was NO rental agreement between any of us. I had paid my rent many months in advance and I have reciepts to prove it. When their business ran into financial trouble (due to Jeff stealing money, but thats a different problem), my cousin Blaine was unable to pay his portion of the rent. He had used all his personal cash to pay the business expenses. Jeff threatened to kick us out if we didnt pay, even though he knew that the only reason we hadnt paid was because he stole ALL of the money out of teh business account. Then one Friday night, Blaine found a five day notice to pay or quit. It was just sitting on our kitchen table. It said that it had been served on the Monday, which left no days for us to pay or respond. We contacted an attorney who said the eviction could be easily challenged due to the illegal service. The judge threw our case out of court because he said it was a "family matter"! At the time, I did not know that my name was listed on the eviction. I was NEVER served. Also, I had shown Jeff proof that I had paid my rent. AND Jeff did not have ANY info on my including the correct spelling of my last name. He broke into my room and searched through my belongings and opened my mail to get the necessary info. All of this happened about three years ago and we still don't know what we can do to get the evictions off of our records. What can we do about all this?

The case to fight the eviction was thrown out, so the eviction was upheld by the court due to the dismissal.
