What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

So the building that I live in is in Los Angeles. There is a house in front that is very old and used to be one house but the owner converted it into two units. In 2001, the owner got a permit to build a two story apartment addition to the back of the house (which is where I live). But in actuality, the unit where I live is 3 stories and the permit is only for two. I went to the Department of Building and Safety and paid the money for all permits and building documents associated with the house. The permits are for a 26 foot, two story addition, and the two units are in a 3 story building that is well over 35 feet tall. This would make the building illegal and if an inspection was performed, tenants would probably have to move out or the company will have to pay a fine, correct? I don't know how they got around the permits or if they just decided not to abide by them, it seems like the house in front is tall enough to hide the back units but would this negate the lease since they rented out a non-permitted, illegal premises? Any answers to my questions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I thought you said the city was already there and you were already ordered to leave, and you were leaving because your lease says june 09 to june 09. And you got all that from the city at 7-2am sunday night. (the portion about the building being illegal, and you being forced to leave.)

That you were going to trash the place, and get all your deposit back anyway.

So, please go ahead and run your question by again.

I am just looking for some assistance, please do not make this some forum fight. If there is anyone who can actually provide some help it would be greatly appreciated.
