michigan-i bought a 96 ford escort for my son in may. it had a 3 month limited warranty, now expired. within a few months things started going wrong with the car. i had son take it to a service garage in november for a diagnostic check. the mechanic called next day and reported that the car was essentially unfixable because its engine had been replaced with an engine from some previous year that was not equipped with the "provisions for the egr system, therefore the dpfe sensor has nothing to connect to." this engine has "multiple oil and coolant leaks." the used car dealer did not disclose that engine had been replaced at all, much less with an engine from the wrong (obviously older) year. Do I have any legal recourse against this dealer?

contact your states attorney general office of consumer frauds, and or contact your states licensing bureau who license and register repair shops. the dealership is a licensed repair shop this is where they make all their money, if you threathen to have their license revoked or suspended they may come around. your purchase sounds like consumer fraud. also look up the magnuson moss act this covers all you should know about warrantys.
