What is the name of your state? IL
My father just passed away last week and left my mother with debt on several credit cards that were in his name only.

Is my mother responsible for these debts? She never even knew he had these credit card accounts as the statements were being sent to a second address of a property they had.

My mother is willing to take care of these debts if necessary, but she won't be able to until after this 2nd piece of property is sold which could of course take some time to sell.

What can she / should she do with this?

Thank you!

Your mother should not be personally responsible for credit card debt on credit cards in your father's name only. The creditors can make a claim against the estate.
