What is the name of your state? New Hampshire

My BF has been in the United States with permanent resident status since he was 14 years old. He is now 45.
His GC expired on June 12th and he is in the process of getting it renewed. Forms are filed and he has a Biometrix appointment in place.
We are concerned about a couple of issues:
1. He has a DUI on his record from 4 years ago. and
2. He has never informed immigration of any of his new addresses when he has moved since he has been in this country.

Do we have anything to worry about?

Consult with

You will find andswers to your questions.

You BF is doing himself a BIG dis-service by not becoming naturalized.

31 years.... go citizen.
Thank you so much. He told me a while ago that he didn't want to be a US Citizen because he wanted an Austrian passport and not a US one. (I'm not sure what the reasoning is there) I have discussed the naturalization with him and he is apparently planning on doing it now but he still needs to get his GC because that process can take a really long time. It took 3 years for his mother after applying for it.

I think you still are confused.

He still has permanent resident status.

The green card is just a document. I must be renewed to prevent fraud.

As a permanent resident, you need to have your proof of status (the green card).

You do not lose your status if the document expires!

When you apply for renewal of the green card, you are given a temporary proof of status document or other suitable indica of status in your passport.

You get this even if you are applying for renewal after the document has expired.

Your BF can (and it seems has) easily get the ball rolling to correct this, and have a temporary proof until the green card is renewed in a few hours.

Thanks again! I looked at the site you provided and realized what you just told me. I was under the impression that once it expired you're illegal. I'm very pleased to know the facts now. Thank you, you have been VERY helpful and now I will start breathing again! :D
