I recently had some lab tests done thru my Drs. office in Missouri.
I advised them the lab tests needed to be sent to a specific lab, so that my insurance would pay 100%. They said the specified was the only lab they used.
The Dr. office billed my insurance. The insurance paid about 50% instead of 100%.
I called my insurance, they advise the Drs. office billed for the lab tests instead of the actual lab, therefore, the reason they only paid partially.
I called the Drs. billing service - and had them call the insurance company. Apparently because they billed this through their office instead of the lab billing direct, my insurance will not pay the full amount. I asked them why they did this - they stated it was common practice & there were too many manuals to read to know what each individual insurance company required for billing.
I advised them, they were the specialist billing people, the ones with the manuals. It was their duty to know how each company needed claims to be submitted and I would not pay this balance as if they had billed it according to my insurance company requirements, it would have been paid in full (which my insurance company states they would have)
I know they will keep billing me into never-never land if they can't get my insurance company to pay the balance if they re-bill it properly.
What choices might I have?
Thank you,
JH
