Hello, I have applied to send my official transcripts to a few universities, and yet my community college has failed twice to get them there. I was charged 16$ total for the transcripts. I'm on a deadline and if I don't get my transcripts to where they need to be I won't be admitted anywhere.

I even had the college send them to my personal address and yet they have still failed to do so after about a month and a half.

Lazy lawyers. I answered my own question.

EDUCATION CODE SECTION 76230-76234

76230. Any currently enrolled or former student has a right to
access to any and all student records relating to him maintained by
community colleges. The editing or withholding of any such records,
except as provided for in this chapter, is prohibited.
Each community college district shall adopt procedures for the
granting of requests by students to inspect and review records during
regular school hours, provided that access shall be granted no later
than 15 working days following the date of the request.
Procedures
shall include notification of the location of all official student
records if not centrally located and the providing of qualified
personnel to interpret records where appropriate.

That actually didn't answer your question at all....

all that says is that you have a right to review your own information. It speaks nothing of sending transcripts out to other schools. Don't go into law.

The way they handle sending out transcripts is probably more internal policy and nothing written into the education code.

Actually, it states right there that I have 15 days to receive my records, which is almost up.

And, btw...here is the "internal" policy:

http://www.cos.edu/ImageUpload_Links/EXECUTIVEOFFICE-7020 - Confidential Records.pdf

"The educational records of each student shall be private. Access to personally-identifiable educational records shall be governed by federal and state law."

These are private records, and if they are being frivolously careless with them, then they may be breaking the law.

Perhaps you shouldn't have gone into law.

But kudos to you man. I've posted on this board several times. And every time I do, I always get some smart ass comment from some hack lawyer condescending my every word.

I can read and interpret (and I can spell handling). You are not asking to view your records, you are asking to have your transcripts sent to various schools. If you were to go into the school and ask to view personally your records, you would be given that opportunity, as you have that right within 15 days. You have still yet to post anything that says in the Education Code that they are to send your records to a third party (as you are requesting) within 15 days.

But you've got that top notch Community College Degree. I went to a University. What do I know, right???

Good luck. When I was applying, I got my transcripts to where they needed to go, but if you have all the answers, why post here?

Let me go remedial with you...

Lazy lawyers. I answered my own question.

EDUCATION CODE SECTION 76230-76234

76230. Any currently enrolled or former student(that's you( has a right to
access to any and all student records relating to him (that's you again) maintained by
community colleges (that's the school). The editing or withholding of any such records,
except as provided for in this chapter, is prohibited. (this doesn't apply to your situation)
Each community college district shall adopt procedures for the
granting of requests by students to inspect and review records during
regular school hours, provided that access shall be granted no later
than 15 working days following the date of the request.
(See... it says inspect and review... not to send out to a third party. Heck... it doesn't even say send out to you.. only to give you the opportunity to go to THEM and look at your records during school hours( Procedures
shall include notification of the location of all official student
records if not centrally located and the providing of qualified
personnel to interpret records where appropriate. (that speaks of what happens if your records are no longer at the school and getting someone to help you read those transcripts of yours)
Smugness is only appropriate when you're right in interpreting what you are posting correctly

Why do you think I said I answered my own question? It states right there that I should be allowed to view my own records. Which was not an option given to me at the school, which only offered to send my records to the specified school. Why do you keep insisting that I'm looking for a section in the code dealing with the sending of the records? They're confidential records, and I've asked the school to handle them twice, and yet they have no idea where they've gone. I'm not concerned with whether or not the school has to get them anywhere, but rather, where the hell are they?

But yeah, thanks for the community college comment. I bet your degree is really something to be proud of. Let me know when you get your very own ad on the side of the road.
