Hey guys. Don't really know where to put this but I wasn't aware that NYC passed a law that requires mattress disposal to be in a bag (to prevent spread of bed bugs). So I got not one but two consecutive tickets of $100 each. One at 8:30am and the other one at noon the next day.. can I fight this?

Are they Sanitation or ECB violations?

Either way, you're not getting off on the first one, but you may, with a little luck, get them to dismiss the second violation (assuming it was given for the same mattress that just hadn't been picked up yet). You have nothing to lose by contesting, other than your time, so might as well give it a shot. The instructions on how to plead not guilty should be on the back of the notice.

Good luck.

OP had more than a day to resolve the issue - I don't see him getting out of it. It's not like he got a ticket at 8:30 am and then noon the same day.

The City is desperate for money, but some ALJ's still see this as a "continuing", single violation, rather than two separate ones. Then again, other ALJ's wouldn't care if you got two tickets in the same hour, so a lot has to do with the luck of the draw as far as who you get assigned to when you show up to contest.

But it doesn't hurt to ask - the worst they can do is say "no" leaving the OP is in the same position they were before.

No argument about it not hurting to ask :)
