My wife was in an accident and we had no insurance. She hit the other when she went through a red light. The insurance company hired a lawyer for the amount of the plantiff's vehical. We admitted wronfullyness on paper. What if we cannot pay and we get sued in court?

My response:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but repayment of the car value to the insurance company is just the beginning. For now, forget about what the State has in store for your wife, your more urgent situation will be when the injured person claims damages under their Uninsured Motorist Coverage, and their insurance company pays them, then their insurance company is going to come after your wife, just like they are now with the car situation. I would obtain an attorney, if for nothing else, to handle settlement negotiations concerning the car and the eventual bodily injury amount they will demand from your wife. The attorney "might" be able to negotiate a reduced total amount for your wife's repayment. Try to get a loan at the bank once all totals are known. At some point, your wife will have to deal with the court system or an administrative agency concerning her license, it's suspension, and a hefty fine, plus a guarantee that insurance has been purchased.
