We are a CA parents' club that has existed for 5years. We are just now filing as non-profit. No one has ever looking into liability ins. We are concerned that members could sue board members if accident happens. We heard that it might be cheaper to incorporate and that would give a blanket liability coverage to all members. None of us are familiar with incorporation and would like to know more and if we would be released of liability.

Yes the non-profit should be incorporated for reasons of protection from law suits as well as better tax treatment for the company owners and the company itself. You can read up on incorporation, and non-profits at this site's main web page. Just scroll down to the BBS on corporation or business law. Also, to find a business law attorney near you, go to attorneypages
