I just received notification that my rent will be increasing 10%, which it has each time I've signed a new lease. The first 2 times it was annoying, now I feel we are being charged way to much for what we are getting.

We are in the process of building a house, so our hands our tied because we have no where else to go. Out of curiousity, I called the apartment complex to find out how much it would cost a "new" person to come in and rent our apartment and was quite shocked to find out it is hundreds of dollars less then they are charging us. So, It would be cheaper for me to move to a new apartment (that has the same features that we have now) than to renew my lease.

I don't think this is illegal, but is there anything that I can do. I wouldn't be so upset if there wasn't such a huge gap between what they are charging us, and what they are charging a new tenant for the exact same apartment.

We live in Columbia MD.

So move to another apartment in the same complex.

Didn't your grandmother ever teach you how to negotiate?
Are you waiting for the government to step in and tell you how much to pay?
