I live in California and have been renting this house for three years. I received a letter from my landlord with an increase in rent of $300.00, asking for an addiional $300.00 security deposit and a last months rent in the amount of $1150.00. I can understand the increase in rent to meet market value but I have never heard of someone increasing the security deposit. We do have a month to month rental agreement. He is asking us to sign a new month to month rental agreement. Can he do this? We have maintained the property inside and out and have not destroyed anything. Please someone let me know as soon as possible because I need to make some decisions. The new rental agreement has is set to begin on July 1, 2000. We have not signed it yet. Thank You
