i manage two properties in the tourist industry. part of my salary is free living arrangements, and free utilities. i work, or am on the premises for on call, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. well, almost. i am allowed 16 hours away from my work per week, but i am told by my employer that i must pay nearly 1/2 of the relief persons hourly wage. i have a good rapport with the owner ( who happens to be a tax attorney) but want to have all my facts straight before i approach him for negotiating a new deal for my time away. can anyone help me with what my rights are as far as labor laws are concerned? i want to maintain good working relations because i enjoy my work, like the owner, and am able to heavily invest in a retirement program because of having free living arrangements, so this job is important to me. so is some free time away.

thanks
