I live in MN. My Insurance Company has recently sent me a letter stating it was going to terminate my policy at its renewal date (9/06) It states, "We have been advised that you own 2 Chow dogs..." I am not sure how they got this information. My dogs are rescued and I have no proof of thier breed. How do I respond to this and keep my insurance from being on the "chopping block."
Also, I have been thinking of canceling my insurance/ switching agents because I am not pleased with my agent; i.e. - he signed me up for a business key policy that had no relevance to what I needed covered and canceled my key policy on what I needed covered. He sent me two bills whitch I did not pay for this unwanted policy. And, he is never available for consult. I rated him a 2-3 out of 10 on a recent JD Power survey. If I change agents and this letter is still "unresolved" will is complicated getting insurance from another agent/ agency?
Thanks.

Are the dogs running lose? Have there been any bites ever? If not, find a new carrier. There are plenty out there that will insure if these standards are met.

Chows are know to be aggressive dogs (eventhough your may not seem to be). Nevertheless they are on the "list". Unless you can prove that he is not chow, I suggest you just try finding another carrier or accept a surcharge. The company probobly came to your home for an exterior inspection and saw the dog.

More common

With the number of dog attacks occuring it is becoming difficult to get insurance if you own a particular breed of dog. We were denied homeowners insurance last year because we owned a dog that was part rottie. Unfortunately alot of these breeds get bad reputations because people are not responsible in their care of them.

**A: start talking to other agents and getting other quotes.
