I have been reading about the changes proposed in Florida for funds from homeowner's insurance claim checks. Many people have trouble getting the mortgage company to give them the funds. I am a first time homeowner and didn't know what the procedure is, so when I received my check from damage done by Hurricane Wilma, I wrote 'for deposit only' on the check and put it in my savings account. I am drawing off of it as I get my roof redone and other repairs from the claim. The bank accepted the money deposited months ago and I haven't heard a word from my mortgage company or insurance company. We have an excellent credit rating, and our home's value have increased 300% since we purchased it. Is depositing the check without my mortgage company's endorsement going to cause me problems down the line?
