Help. I recently settled an insurance claim in Queens, New York. However as I live in New England I had the Old Check returned with a Notarized letter to issue the check in my sisters name - a NY resident. The Insurance adjuster has claimed that he needs to deposit the check in his firms acct in order to issue a new one. This smells of a con. should'nt the adjuster be able to just issue a new check?

I can't understand why YOU did not deposit the check and pay anyone else who is entitled to the money -- I can't quickly see why the difference in state of residence has any bearing on the matter.
