I have a new claim for water damage but insurance was asking for documentation or receipt to show previous damage in the same area was fixed. Unable to locate. Can l be denied for this claim or what can I do? Thanks

What is the name of your US state?
Generally, here in the United States, yes, they could deny your claim.

More likely adjust for the prior damage and just pay less.

That would be a lot safer for an insurance company to do, especially under California's Unfair Claims Practices Act.

Good argument for keeping better records permanently.

I'm guessing that your insurance company paid for previous damage and doesn't want to pay for the same damage again.

Who did the repairs for you? Can you go back to the contractor and get a copy of the paid invoice? Did you pay by check? Can you get a copy of the cancelled check from your bank?

Thanks all for constructive advice. Insurance co did not pay for the previous damage. Claimed there is no damage to property. They only wanted me to fix it out of pocket. Now a new damage in the same area different pipe. I used handyman. Not sure if it's accepted by law in California especially for a claim they did not pay for.
