and the hospital turned it over to a collection agency just yesterday. I never received any notification that I owed this money much less that it was overdue by six years. The Hospital says that they turned in the claim to the Insurance Co but never received payment on the claim other than my $40 co-payment. After calling the Insurance company I was told that they did not keep records for more than 5 years. I find that strange. I'm not sure what to do from here. The Insurance rep suggested a lawyer as we are not responsible for this debt after 5 yrs. I also find that difficult to swallow.
It seems that the confusion was caused by us moving 3 months after the hospital stay. All of the other doctors and other bills from subsequent hospital visitsy had no problem with the US postal change of address system.
BTW I stumbled across this all by accident as I was going through my credit report and found another mystery debt to the same hospital, called about that. Of course they have no record of that debt or amount, but the sure can come up with a $4000 bill that wasn't payed
.
Suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks
