What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan

In late 2015 we received a letter stating Our previous years insurance company wrongfully paid for our prescriptions for the entire year of 2014. At the end of 2013 we switched insurance companies, yet in 2014 our pharmacy continued to bill our previous insurance company. The crazy fact is, they continued to pay for our prescriptions for the entire year, even though we were no longer a member. Now a year later they want their money back. Over $650. I contacted the pharmacy, as directed by the insurance company, and was told they could not go back over 1 year and resubmit claims. I made several phone calls to the insurance company telling them, if they would have denied the claims for the ENTIRE year, this would have never been a problem, but because they Paid the amounts, now it is. In my opinion, it is that insurance companies fault. Even the representatives at that company agreed with me and admitted to it being their mistake. She told me she would either fix the issue or have a higher tier contact me. I didn't hear anything from them for months. Now I received a bill from a collections agency. I am buying a new home and I'm worried about my credit now, so I immediately paid it. But I still think it's not my fault. I go to the pharmacy, drop off my prescription, and an hour later I pick it up. Pay the pharmacy and go on my way. I don't question who what where my amount came from, knowing the amount was mostly covered by my insurance. I don't question the pharmacy about who the insurance was that paid it. The pharmacy had both my current and my old insurance on file, but by default it went to my old insurance company. But instead of denying it they paid ALL YEAR LONG. what do I do to get my money back, and credit fixed? So frustrated.
