What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? ga

My husband's insurance which is provided through his job is asking for birth certificates for all our children, my last year's W2, and our Income Tax form. We have had insurance with this company for many, many years, and all of a sudden they want some kind of proof it seems. I had no idea that they had a right to ask for such private info Nor do I feel we should have to supply it to them. Is this legal? United Healthcare is threatening to cancel our policy if we don't give up the goods. I don't like being blackmailed. We have never falsified our insurance documents, and we think they are just looking for a reason to drop a few people with the recession and all going on these days. Anyway, what can we do? What are our rights?

Are you the ONLY one being asked for this information? Or is it being asked of all members of the group?

Could be. Could be a change to underwriting requirements, could be a new policy pending. Or, it could be that the carrier has reason to believe that some or all of the individuals covered on the policy have fraudulent information in their records. Could be a lot of things. That's why I asked if this was for the whole group or just the individual. But since the OP does not seem inclined to answer me, guess we'll just have to leave her in Pending. ;)
