We incurred some mold and water damage from a flood caused by the city's lack of keep drainage ditches maintained. My husband had previously purchased a disaster policy which agreed to cover mold despite the manner in which it was acquired. The day of the flood, many houses all over the town had severe flooding. The city sent out trucks for several days to help with drainage, etc. This of course was after years of begging them and getting work order numbers so they could fix the issue.
Anyhow, although we called to try to get someone to dry the water that day, Only 2 showed, and they were not able to commit, but were willing to give advice. They just told us to get fans, and shopvacs to remove the water. They said others all over town were far worse. Anyway, my husband contacts the main insurance company, and they send an adjuster (eventually), but HE REFUSES to for the mold that appears to be growing behind the bases boards (which were now pulling away from the walls.
We live in a small town. Either people who did the work of drying out houses were working with others at that time or they had moved on because of the Recession. The Main Home Owner's insurance company said they have 16 companies in our area that does this kind of work. Okay, when was the last time they spoke with those companies? How do they know if the companies are still in business? There were not 16 that we were aware of in this area.
Anyway, I am not sure if we are sunk or not because my husband told the main insurance company that the washing machine ran over and caused flooding and mold damage. Granted I did not agree to this. He was just desperate for us to get the help we needed. Anyways, now he told the Disaster Insurance company that it was indeed a flood caused by the city which was the truth in the first place. At this point, I am kind of upset with him, but I know he was trying to get us a safe place to stay. My daughter has severe allergic skin issues and I am ill will allergy/sinus issues that I am afraid of living here.
I understand that he may have created a tangled weave, but what can we do now?
Please know I appreciate all answers. Have a great day. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
