What is the name of your state?Iowa I have had the same insurance company for almost 25 years on my house. Due to the fact that we got a new mortgage and our escrow stopped and my husband is dying of cancer, things have been a little confused and I mistakenly let it lapse. The minute I realized what I had done, I called the insurance company and after some research she informed me that my house did not have enough updates and my roof was too old so they could not renew my policy. I've checked with other companies and they won't insure me either. At what point did they deem my roof too old and not enough updates? My thought is that they were taking my money for several years for no reason. Do I have any recourse with this insurance company? I have never had a claim in the more than 24 years I've been here. What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state?

You could also fix up your house a bit...so that it meets at least the minimum requirements to get insurance.

Did you ask the ins. co. if they would reconsider insuring your home if you fixed it up & what repairs, besides fixing the roof, they required done? If you don't have the money, could you possibly get a loan?

They could have nonrenewed you years ago, had they sent an inspector out to view your home. Since they didn't, you received the benefit of the insurance (had you had a claim). However, once it lapsed, most insurance company will treat it as new business. Since you are having trouble getting insurance in the voluntary market, you can contact local agents who sell your state's version of the FAIR plan. Ask them for information on getting insured that way. Some states call it assigned risk.
