Does anyone know insurance industry published standard for Home Inventory? I recently launched a web site designed to enable users to create a home inventory online, and I want to ensure that users' inventory reports are acceptible to major insurers. Currently, all I have found are "checklists" like this one at State Farm http://www.statefarm.com/consumer/homeinvt.htm

My site is freehomeinventory.com.

Great idea, I don’t know of any standards but I lost most of my worldly possessions to Hurricane Dennis last year and I sure wish I had done something like this. My wife and I had to sit down after the fact and from a few pictures figure out what we lost. I had a good insurance company they did not question anything, the problem was my list was incomplete, in the 8 months since the storm hardly a week goes by that my wife or I don’t remember something else we lost but forgot to claim.

So from my experience I would advise people to be very complete, you probably have insurance for things like an old pair of socks, a camera you haven’t used in years, and your medicines but if you don’t claim it you won’t get paid for it.

Good Luck
