If a company that you work for swaps insurance companies and your are pregnant, is the new insurance company in any way obligated to cover you like the old insurance company was going to or do you strictly have to abide by there policies, even if you are 2 months from delivery? And can the old insurance company completely deny to keep your old policy because the company changes insurance companies?

It all depends upon the individual policy and what it states regarding pre-existing conditions.Where I work (in the state of Ca) our particular plans do not have pre existing clauses. Ask your employer for a copy of the policy. Yes your employer can refuse to keep your older policy. It wouldnt be a wise business decision for them to keep a policy for one employee. It would cost them too much money to cover one employee. I am assuming that they changed because they got better rates from the new company. You didnt mention how far along you were in your pregnancy. The only other option MIGHT be to consider changing doctors so It may not be considered a pre existing condition. That is only a suggestion.

the above post is only my opinion and not based on any educated knowledge of the insurance industy. I will NOT be held liable for anything stated here as it is merely my UNprofessional opinion.

Congrats on your pregnancy and good luck with your issues. I hope things work out for you.

From my experience, when I was expecting, I changed job positions at my employer. Because of that change (for the better!) I had to choose among new insurers, and I had no problem with the new insurer even though I was pregnant. I think most insurers will accept pregnancy even though it is a pre-existing condition, because it was the employer's decision to switch, not yours.
