insurance won't pay one doctor

My sister was recently hospitalized for cancer. She works for MAJOR beer company and has excellent insurance. All of her bills are being covered except one doctor. She was not consulted about seeing him, ask for him , nor was told anything about his insurance practices. Her bill states he does not accept her insurance. Can she protest payment of this bill?
