What is the name of your state? Florida

Somebody has mass produced their intellectual property onto DVD's, then disposed of them in an unlocked dumpster with public access from every direction.

I found these items and removed them from the trash because I figured they had value. If I sell them on Ebay am I breaking any law?

Does the fact that they discarded the items carelessly and with deliberate intent allow me to do with them as I wish, such as sell the items on Ebay, or is there still some sort of protection for the originator?

It depends on what is on the DVD's.
