What is the name of your state? Vt. Actually asking this for a friend. Her ex was in arrears when "she" had custody of 6,000.00. There was no interest tacked on. This was in 1997. Now she is unemployed..looking..but 5,000 in arrearages due to 1500.00 of that as interest tacked on by child support office. She called the CS Office and they said that this is custom, and has been for the last 15 years. Can she request in court to have her interest removed? She claims this is unfair. Thanks Faith

Does she pay through the CS Office? If so, have her write them a certified (RRR) letter requesting they reply with the citation of the exact Vermont statute which gives them authority to charge interest on the arrears.

from my cursory search of the statutes, it doesn't exist.
