I made arrangements with a contractor to perform work in my condo. A board member called the contractor crying and said she didn't want him to do the work. He's upset. I'm upset. What business it is of hers, I don't know. (She has a history of peculiar behavior.) Do I have any recourse for her interference under DC law, any law?

My response:

While there are laws against "contractual interference", there doesn't appear to be any damages suffered by you as a result - at this time, from a fair reading of your post.

Hire a new contractor, and tell that contractor to ignore your neighbor when she approaches. If he doesn't, fire him.

If this becomes a serious matter, e.g., repeated interferences by her, then you may have to go to court to file for a Temporary Restraining Order.

Keep detailed notes and records concerning her actions, so that if you have to go to court, you'll have contemporaneous notes to offer into evidence for the judge to review in order to make a ruling on your TRO.

Thank you...

There is a history of interference. Do you have any recommendations on how to document or present this kind of thing so that I can put a quick and effective stop to this intrusive and upsetting behavior?
Thank you very much.

My response:

Insofar as documentation occurring, you go out and buy some bullets. Put her name on each one, and the problems she has caused. That's the documentation part.

Now, in order to "put a quick and effective stop to this intrusive and upsetting behavior", you load your .44 Magnum and empty your clip into her.

That'll pretty much stop her craziness, and might, just might, convince her to stop what she's doing; but, don't bet on it. Ornery people never die - - they just survive to continue bothering us. Remember, only the good die young. Crazy people live on.

I guess I'm back to original thought - find a 6'4" 300 pound live-in boyfriend laced with crossed bones and skull tatoos and switchblade scars (he might even be missing a few teeth). I'll even buy him the leather jacket and chains. (A pit bull would be nice, but I've got cats.)
Thanks again, and have a great holidays!
