What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state?I live in North Carolina and I got two DUI's in 1999 within a thirty day period . I blew a 12 both times but I guess that's not relevant if caught twice in a certain period of time.

My license were suspened for four years and I was elegible for them in 2005. After going through all the crap involved I found out that they were going to require me to have one of those Interlocking Systems for another three years. Wop eeh! This thing is something else.

My question?

Question 1 If (and I think not) this law was not passed when I was caught does that effect my having this machine. The judge never mentioned when my license's were revoked.

Question 2 I have called the DMV in South Carolina and thought seriously about moving and working there but they have yet to give me a concrete answer. Does anyone have a answer for that one? I am almost positive that don't have the Interlock requirement in that state.

Question 3 What state can I get a clear license since I completed the four years required for the charge here in N.C. ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

1. Doesn't matter. The laws has to do with license reinstatement and the laws in effect at the time you applied for the reinstatement take precedence.

2. Google "states driver's license compact" and/or "non resident violators compact" and you will learn a lot. NC and SC are very close when it comes to sharing information. Unless you plan to move to SC and never drive in NC, your plan of an out of state license won't work anyway. It does not matter what state you are licensed to drive, you will require in interlock on any vehicle you drive in NC.

3.You can start here.

Thanks

I appreciate the info but I have no desire to drive in the state of NC. once I get established somewhere else. I have forty nine or fifty other choices.

thanks

I would like to add that in case of an emergency the machine could cause someone to lose their life if doesn't happen while driving down the road messing with the dang thing. Three years is just too long especially when you don't drink a drop any more. Mine has failed me twice due to a fuse blowing inside of the unit. oh well.
