What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Federal

As many might know, yesterday Trump signed a roll-back of rules in regards to privacy. One aspect has to do with ISPs tracking and selling traffic data by subscribers. Is anyone going to change their habits because of the change in the rules?

Some things might be to use Https:everywhere or a VPN or TOR to encrypt on your machine before being sent. Personally I use TOR but am going to install a VPN instead.

I wonder if they are going to charge me more for the encryption?

Even though I'm fairly careful, there are still privacy breaches all the time. There was a discussion in the office about the cost of a high in the now-"legal" market in my state. After a bit of back and forth, I Googled how many joints were in an ounce and we came up with an estimate.

The next day I start getting spam for CBD tinctures in my email. CBD is a cannibinoid that, purportedly, does not get you high. I checked my spam filter and have not been getting any of these before doing the search. I am scratching my head to discover what search I've made that makes it seem I want to buy a lot of apple cider vinegar.

I can go one better than that. I was looking for a particular vitamin C serum on my laptop, and hours later my husband started getting ads on his KINDLE and an email inviting him to try the latest serums himself.

He was less than amused.

As for me ... I can't. If I start talking about how I feel about that demented cheeto there will be a riot here (or, at least, wailing and gnashing of teeth) and I don't want to upset Mom too much.

(Also, ACV is wonderful. Send me all your ACV)

It is disturbing. That is all I will say.

It's really not that uncommon. For example...when I look something up on Amazon, my wife starts seeing "suggested posts" related to that item or similar items. It's been that way for a long time. It has to do with agreements made between the companies.

I understand that, and my example was simply adding to NIV's original post.

I echo quincy's thoughts on this one (no surprises there!).

What this forum needs is a special "Trump" category so that these discussions are not carried out all over the forum. It sort of goes without saying that everything the Trump administration and the GOP lawmakers do (and stand to do in the future) will be controversial.
