What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan

I received an email from this lady looking for people to help her out. She is the CEO of this company and basically what they do is send checks out to people, they cash them, keep 10%, and then send the rest through Western Union to the business. I can get into more details if necessary but I'm wondering is there ANY way this can be legal? I actually received two checks in the mail but I really don't know what to do. Any help would be great.

It's not only a scam, it's one of the oldest and most common scams out there.

After you send your money to these people, you're going to find out the checks they sent you are bogus. Your bank will reverse the deposit, leaving you with a negative balance. Good luck getting your money back.

ETA: And no, your bank isn't responsible for confirming the checks are good.

OP, please forward any and all information from the email to local law enforcement so that this may be stopped...possibly.

The email is not from a lady and this person is definitely not a CEO and the company doesn't even exist. Any "business opportunity" that involves Western Union is a scam.

Destroy the checks and do not reply to any more emails.

NEVER *EVER* *EVER* *EVER* send money Western Union someone you don't personally know. WU is for sending money quickly to your deadbeat brother in law so he can get his car fixed, not for conducting business transactions. Regardless of where the person says they are, once you mail them the transaction information they can pick it up at any WU office in the world. WU specifically warns you not to do this, but people are stupid and greedy.
