My employer is requesting that we ask all of our staff if they have paid their personal or real property tax on time. If not, disciplinary action will be taken - even if it is only a few days late. Can they do this? In GA property tax information is public record, but motor vehicle information is protected by the Privacy Act. Isn't this an illegal invasion of privacy? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? GA

Well, that's why, then. Doesn't look good for the government when a manager for, and staff in, the tax commissioner's office don't pay their own taxes and state-required fees.

"Privacy" in the government employment arena is pretty much a contradiction in terms.
