What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ohio
Hi I'm Caleb Purvis
On 03-01-2010 I purchased a web hosting package (Hosting and Domain) (info domain name "r4ndom-h4cks.com"). I used it and everything was great. I went to login today to do some more work on my site and was unable to login. I contacted iPage (the company I bought the hosting from) Tech Support and ask about the problem where they informed me that "...the account 'r4ndomh4ckscom' has been deleted on our server" and that "...we have taken the ownership of the domain name.". So I ask what the problem had been and what I could do to fix it. They told me "The Reporting Fraudulent Accounts Policy states what to do when we are contacted by someone who is informing us that their credit card has been used fraudulently." so they were saying I made an illegal purchase with someone else's card or something along those lines. I said that it was indeed a legal purchase and that I had the documentation to back it up. Then they changed their story and said "We have cancelled the account because you wanted to host domain name 'r4ndom-h4cks.com' which looked like phishing domain." So since my domain name choice looked suspicious they decided to remove it.
They never made any attempts to contact me even though they had my email address on recored. They never gave me a chance to back-up my designs, data, or work.
They said that they would refund my money. But the domain name I chose would be unavalible until it expires (usually that takes a year) and my data was lost.
Since they returned my money it's all legal but I was going to use this site to host and promote my blog (r4ndom-h4cks.blogspot.com) and I was using it to host the site I made to RSVP to my wedding. Now all that data is lost. I think thats highly unethical.
I have my receipt, bank statement, and transcript of conversation with iPage
