:rolleyes:What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? florida

I will soon owe IRS $41,000 plus interest. In my family of 2 if I take all of the IRS national standards and add on what I pay montlhy for health insurance it comes to about $3500 per month in allowable standard expenses. My net monthly salary is just about that amount. How do you think they will negotiate with me. Will they garnish my wages at some point even though that doesnt leave me with the national standards allowed? What is the max they can take from a wage garnishment in the state of florida.

Thank you for any opinions or advice

They will take your stuff and garnish your wages unless you make a deal with them. Part of the deal is the national standards. However, until you contact them, they won't really care or know.

How did you develop a tax debt which is about the total amount of your yearly salary?

Seniors, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Florida's laws regarding garnishment would necessarily apply here. I'm pretty sure it would be the lesser of the two evils: Federal vs Florida.

Again, I could be wrong.

Regardless of how you got in this position, you're in it.

Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate.

Be honest. Throw yourself on the mercy of the Service.

Go face to face with a supervisor. Bring Starbucks and a doughnut.

Explain your situation, have them pull out a work sheet and come to terms.

Negotiate out penalty. Likely you will not be successful with interest.
