My friend was deposed(he is suing his former employer) and he was questioned about me.
During the questioning the lawyer(for the other side) blamed me for the fact that my friend has been unable to get another job. I strongly believe it was simply a tactic to make him upset/angry. We are not even in the same line of business.
My question...is what is said/asked in the depositon confidential? or can I go back to the person the lawyer said was my fault and ask him if he really said the reason my friend has been unable to get another job was due to me. I do not even know the other person neither does my friend.
Or in a deposition are they allowed to say absolutely anything?

thanks What is the name of your state? colorado

Of course not. The fact of the deposition is already a part of the court record. The actual contents of the deposition may or may not become a part of the record.... if either party thinks it is of benefit to their side.

You can ask him anything you want. Of course, he doesn't have to answer.

They can say anything that they know or believe is the truth.

Get the facts

First of all, you do not know what was said. Your friend's lawyer should be receiving a copy of the transcript from the deposition so have your friend get it for you to read. Don't bother calling the attorney, he will not speak to you about the case.

Not true. Most court reporter 'deals' include one or two copies of the transcript to the party who hired them.... any other parties have to pay the stenographer for a copy.
