I supervise a group of people in the IT Department. One of my analyst was involved in hiring a consultant for our group. The consultant has been working for us for about 3 years. Recently, she
confided in me that this analyst gets a portion of her pay(each paycheck) from the agency she works for. I mentioned this situation to my supervisor, who wants to confront the analyst to find if this is true or not.
My dilema is this... If the analyst says he is getting kickbacks from hiring the consultant, then we may need to fire him, since it is a conflict of interest with our company. However, if he says he is not getting any
kickbacks, I would not know if it's the truth.

My supervisor feels that we should find the answer to this by asking the analyst. However, I feel that
since I do not have any evidence, there is nothing for me to work on, except hearsay from the consultant.

I am very concerned about how to handle this when finding the truth. I do not want to unnecessarily
embarrass the analyst nor do i want to lose the trust of the consultant since she confided in me.

How do I resolve this so that my supervisor and I will know what the truth is as well?
Incidentally, there is another consultant involved in the same manner as well.

I really appreciate our time and putting your heads together to advise me. Thank you very much.

Your responsibility was to notify your supervisor. You are done.
