I don't think my problem falls under slander or libel. I'll relate the issues I'm dealing with and ask if there is any recourse to address the problem.

At the company where I work the Controller is a close personal friend of my boyfriends parents. Several times they have had knowledge of personal details relating to my job. They know the amount of my salary, the amount of my last raise, they know that I have borrowed money against my salary, and they even know my schedule before I do at times.

In casual conversation they have mentioned so-and-so said....

Is there any way I can stop the Controller from discussing my personal business with these people? I resent the fact that they know how much I make and then "wonder" why I would need to borrow money against my salary. It is starting to become an issue in my relationship because my boyfriend doesn't see why I would object to his parents knowing this information, he says they are concerned about me.

I don't want to quit my job because I like it and I feel that I could have a longterm future with the comany. I've taken my problem to the owner of the company but apparently he never addressed it with the Controller as it continues to happen. I'm at my wits end, please help!

You can do one of two things:

1. Slap the "Controller" silly.

2. Find some dirt on the "Controller" and spread it around.

I've taken my problem to the owner of the company but apparently he never addressed it with the Controller as it continues to happen.

If you don't want to quit and the owner doesn't see a problem, then I suggest you learn to ignore the behavior.

Have you simply had a conversation with the controller and asked them to keep your work situation private?

Just come right out and tell the Controller and your b/f's parents that you find it extremely annoying when they delve into your personal business and if it doesn't stop then you'll simply remove yourself from the situation.

is there an actual hr department in your company, I would talk to them, you also might want to post this question in the employment section of this forum

First, I can't slap the creep, he's bigger than I am.

Secondly, I've told him, point blank, that I don't appreciate him telling my business to my bf's parents. He apologized but it hasn't stopped.

Third, I've told my bf's parents that I don't feel comfortable with them talking about me behind my back but their reaction was that 'it just came up in conversation'. I'm inclined to think that they've asked because I can't think that my life is so exciting that it's topic of normal conversation.

And no, there isn't a HR department. The Controller is the company bitch and does the HR duties as well.

The owner is an old man, his son runs the company, so he probably forgot what I'd said as soon as I said it.

As far as spreading dirt on him....what I know could land me in court if I pass it along! And I don't really want to stoop to his tactics, I'd just like to let him know that if it continues the consequences could be unpleasant.

Thanks for suggesting that I post in the employment section. I'd considered it but didn't think of it as an employment issue.
