Is it lawful for my friend to use my address on his policy?

My friend lives in NYC and I live in upstate NY. He asked if he could use my address on his auto insurance, as the premium is gonna be much lower to use my address. Even though my name won't appear on his policy, I wonder if I'll be held legally responsible (or be penalized) if something happens.
