Is it leagal for an employer to charge me for an honest mistake?

I don't know where to turn. I work in Minnesota. I am a desk clerk at a motel. If there is a mistake involved and the hotel has to compensate a guest, the employer charges the employee whatever was paid out. None of us signed a form stating that we are required to pay for our mistakes. Is it legal for them to do this? Can I fight this? Do the answers I received apply even though the money isn't taken out of the pay check directly? We are made to pay or we are written up and go on probation if we don't.

Contact your State's States Attorney Generals Office. The employer is only allowed to deduct tax withholdings or court ordered garnishments from your paycheck, unless you have given it written permission to deduct shortages, etc.

You and your co workers will have money coming to you...and your employer will be fined..

Gather up all your paychecks and total up the amount decucted for each person before you contact the attorney generals office.....then just hand them the copies and see what happens
